St Mary's Primary School was established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1903 and this rich Mercy history is still embedded in our actions today. Catholic Education first began in Crookwell with lay teachers in 1892. In 1903 the Sisters of Mercy arrived and the first St. Mary’s School was established. The Catholic Convent, which adjoins the Church through the side Chapel, housed the first schoolroom. In 1912 the school moved into a new Parish hall on land across the road. This remains our current school site. Over the years the school continued to grow and by 1948 St. Mary’s Memorial School was opened. The school remained in the care of the Sisters of Mercy until 1993. Today St Mary’s Primary School is a Catholic Systemic school that follows the guidelines and policies set down by the Catholic Education Commission of the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn and the NSW Board of Studies. Our school currently caters for 125 students from Kinder to Year 6. There are between 13 - 25 children in each class. The Mercy values of Excellence, Compassion, Justice, Respect and Service underpin all we strive to achieve.
